About the role


The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the successful delivery of software projects within the company to a professional standard and ensures they are developed using industry best practices. You will join a growing team responsible for ensuring that our offerings stay at the cutting edge of online learning solutions by understanding business requirements and translating them into technical solutions. The role requires collaborative working across the technical team, writing and maintaining code to a high standard, and developing new features for key platforms while ensuring they remain robust and reliable.

Location:
Flexible within the UK. The vast majority of our people work flexibly in a hybrid model, working from home with regular attendance at one of our Learning Pool Offices (Derry, Nottingham, Oxford, Belfast or Glasgow).


What you will be doing


Roles and responsibilities include:


  • Develop and maintain critical parts of the Learning Platform.
  • Collaborate on the planning, scoping and technical design of bespoke software projects.
  • Use unit, integration and E2E testing, to ensure the software is robust and reliable.
  • Review PRs of the Team and provide feedback, driving the best practices.
  • Collaborating on the continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Work collaboratively - having solid communication skills, especially in explaining complex concepts.
  • Keep up to date with current trends in software development and keep your skills updated accordingly.
  • Participate in and provide feedback for performance management.

Who we are looking for


The successful candidate will have:


  • Excellent knowledge of Javascript and SCSS.
  • Experience building Node.js and modern JS libraries, such as Express/Apollo/NextJS, ReactJS, Jest/Cypress.
  • Experience working with REST and GraphQL layers.
  • Production experience in relational DB design (MySQL/PostgreSQL), distributed caches systems (Redis) and messaging systems (SQS/SNS).
  • Experience working as part of an Agile team in a high-pace environment.
  • Having excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of Software Development Lifecycles (SDLC) methodologies including requirements, design, implementation, testing and maintenance.

Although not essential, it would be advantageous to have experience working with the following:


  • Knowledge of Typescript.
  • Understanding of cross-platform development (accessibility, responsiveness and etc.)
  • Commercial experience developing in frontend and backend environments.
